Craft Australia in conjunction with Object: Australian Centre for Craft and Design, Sydney, is calling for nominations to the Living Treasure: Masters of Australian Craft series for 2012 and 2014.
Living Treasures celebrates the achievements of Australia's iconic and influential crafts practitioners and is designed to promote the work of Australian artists whose exemplary craft skills have been recognised by their peers.
New biennial series
From 2011, Living Treasures will have an expanded new format as a biennial series, held every two years. Object Gallery will present an exhibition by the recognised Living Treasures in 2012 and 2014.
The Living Treasures exhibitions will be complemented in the alternate years with a group exhibition that explores a traditional craft medium: 2011, 2013 and 2015 will explore clay, wood and textiles respectively.
Both recipients of Living Treasure - Master of Australian Craft in 2012 and 2014 will be honoured with a national touring exhibition and a major monograph publication.
Nominations
Nominations are welcome from either individuals or organisations. Artists may self-nominate. There will be only one panel of jurors for both the recognised Living Treasures in 2012 and 2014
The names of the two Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft recipients will be announced in July 2011.
