Sustaining crafts and livelihoods: handmade in India

Abstract
This paper examines the current state of the craft sector in India, exploring how a growing interest from consumers in ethical and sustainable materials, processes and objects, is impacting Indian artisans and craft workers. To illustrate how those in the Indian craft sector are dealing with issues related to sustainability and craft, the paper discusses the work of AVANI in the Himalayas, and Khamir Craft Resource Centre in Bhuj, Gujurat.
