This workshop will introduce participants to the use of Procion dyes on various materials, including cloth and paper. This is a user-friendly and environmentally safe dye with unlimited creative potential. The weekend workshop will take an exploratory approach to using dyes for surface treatment and mark making and will give the participants a wide range of techniques applicable to textile works, works on paper, artists' books, yarns and cloth.

Notable Melbourne ceramicist Jane Sawyer will begin by demonstrating some of her techniques in throwing, altering, manipulating, and caressing the clay. Then, during lunch, Jane will show images and discuss her philosophical approach to her work. The afternoon will cover luscious slip decoration and if time permits some hands on tuition of Japanese-style throwing off the hump.
Introduction to Silver Jewellery Making: Working 925

During this 7 week course students will learn basic silver jewellery making skills such as sawing and filing, soldering and riveting, forming, roller embossing and other surface texturing techniques. Projects will include the design and production of a pendant piece and a silver ring. Students will then be guided through their own self-set project where they will design and make a piece of the own choice. This could be a set of earrings, cufflinks or even a brooch.

Sturt Workshops
As part of the Summer school program this course will cover the design and making of teapots in detail. Teapots can be challenging but they offer an opportunity to explore and resolve issues of design and function. They also have to work on an aesthetic level and provide a wonderful vehicle for creative expression. The skills learnt from making ''teapots that work'' can be applied to all forms of functional ceramic making.

This eight-week course offered four times per year focuses on Japanese techniques of wheel made pottery. It is an ideal way to learn wheel-thrown ceramics as it is ergonomically sound and the clay is soft.
